Listen to school radio announcements and answer questions about times, places, and instructions.

Listening means understanding spoken English. In a listening task you hear a short text — like a radio announcement, a talk, or a short conversation — and answer questions about it. You cannot see the words, so you must listen carefully for key information: names, times, places, numbers, and instructions. You can usually play the clip more than once, so use the first time to get the general idea and the second time to catch the small details.

announcement — a spoken message that gives people important information
key words — the most important words in a text, such as names, times, and places
detail — a small, exact piece of information, like a time or a room number
instruction — words that tell you what to do, for example 'bring a hat'
💡Note

Before the audio starts, quickly read the questions and underline the key words. This tells your ears exactly what to listen for.

🚫Common mistake

Many students choose an answer because it 'sounds nice' or is true in real life. Only pick what the speaker actually says — the audio is the only source.

⚠️Caution

Times and numbers are easy to mishear (two vs. twelve, thirteen vs. thirty). Listen to the end of the word and check it the second time you play the clip.
