✎Asking for and Giving Directions
- 1Ask: Excuse me, where is the hospital, please?
- 2Give directions (1): Go straight on. Turn left at the traffic lights.
- 3Give directions (2): The hospital is on the corner, next to the park.
🚫Common mistake
Do not say 'The bank is between the post office.' You must say 'The bank is between the post office AND the supermarket.' The word 'between' always needs two things.
💡Note
'Go straight on' means go forward. Do not turn left or right.
⚠️Caution
Be careful: 'on the corner' is different from 'next to.' A shop on the corner is at the end of the street where two roads meet.

- 2Direction words tell you where to go (turn left, go straight on).
- 3'On the corner' means the place where two streets meet.
- 4'Between' always needs two things: 'between A and B'.
- 5'Opposite' means on the other side of the road or street.
- 6Use 'next to' when two things are very close to each other.
