✎How to solve an odd-one-out question
- 1Step 1: Look at all the words: actor, director, character, robot.
- 2Step 2: Find what most words have in common. Actor, director, and character are all about people in films.
- 3Step 3: Find the word that is different. A robot is a machine, not a person in films. So 'robot' is the odd one out.
🚫Common mistake
Don't confuse 'character' (a person in a story) with 'actor' (the real person who plays the character on screen).
💡Note
Film type words like 'comedy', 'horror', and 'cartoon' all answer the question 'What kind of film is it?' They help you choose what to watch.
Rules
- 1Film genre words (comedy, horror, cartoon) tell you what kind of film you are watching.
- 2Jobs in films include actor and director — an actor performs, a director gives instructions.
- 3Future words like invent, predict, and technology help you talk about new ideas and what comes next.
- 4A 'scene' is a part of a film; a 'screen' is the surface you watch it on.
- 5'In the future' is a useful phrase for talking about things that have not happened yet.
- 6'Imagine' means to make a picture in your mind, while 'predict' means to make a guess about the future.
