Read texts about cultures, traditions and love of the homeland.

When you read a short text, first skim it quickly to understand the general topic and the writer's purpose. Then read each question carefully and scan the text to find the specific information you need. For vocabulary questions, look at the word in its sentence and use the surrounding context to guess its meaning. Always check that your answer is directly supported by the text — do not rely on outside knowledge.

Four simple strategies to help you answer reading comprehension questions accurately.

✎How to Find the Main Idea
  1. 1Step 1: Read the whole passage once without stopping. Ask yourself: 'What is the writer talking about in almost every sentence?'
  2. 2Step 2: Look at the title and the first sentence of the passage — the main idea is often introduced there.
  3. 3Step 3: Try to state the main idea in one short sentence using your own words. Then find the answer choice that matches your sentence most closely.
🚫Common mistake

A common mistake is choosing an answer just because it contains words from the passage. Wrong choices often use the same vocabulary as the text but say something different. Always check the full meaning of the choice, not just familiar words.

⚠️Caution

Do not spend too much time on one difficult question. If you are stuck, eliminate the choices you know are wrong, make your best guess, and move on. You can come back later if you have time.

Vocabulary questions test the meaning of a word as it is used in the passage. A word can have several meanings, so always check how it is used in the sentence before choosing your answer.
